"The longest reigning queen after Elizabeth II’
Queen Victoria was Queen Elizabeth’s great-great grandmother. She was born on May 1819 in Kensington Palace in London. Her German mother was very strict and she had an unhappy childhood. She was crowned in June 1838 at the age of 18 and moved to Buckingham Palace. She married her cousin, Albert de Saxe Cobourg Gotha from Germany. They had 9 children and 43 grandchildren. After Albert died in 1861 she dressed in black for the rest of her life. She spoke several languages fluently including French and German and later she learnt Hindu so she could speak to her Indian servants. She became Queen of Canada in 1867, Empress of India in 1876 and Queen of Australia in 1901. She died on January 22nd 1901 at Osborne House.
